Cons About Salon Manicures

Wonder why your fresh manicure chips or cracks so quick? Mainly because of your manicurist, not you.
There are things that your nail salon does that are completely wrong!

File Back and Fourth
I've notice that about every manicurist I have watched do my nails in the past or someone elses nails, they all file the nail back and fourth which is incorrect. This causes splitting and stress on the nail. Your only file in one direction only especially if it's your natural real nails.

Soaking nails in water before application
Okay, I know what your thinking, how is this a bad thing? Well it's a bad thing if your paying money for a manicure that cracks and chips in 2 days. Most manicurist do a manicure in this order: 1. remove polish
2. file nails 3. soak 4. remove cuticles 5. massage with lotion 6. wash hands 7. base coat, polish, top coat
The problem with soaking your nails before appyling nail polish is your nails are like spondges, they expand when soaked in water, that's why your nails look longer after a shower or bath. Once the nail polish is on your nails after a while your nails go back to their normal size which causes polish to crack and chip.

Cutting Cuticles
In my last post I explain how important your cuticles are to your nail. When your manicurist does this it slows nail growth and your nail is naked. The cuticle protect the nail and without is it's more prone for fungi and bacteria and can even cause the nail to fall off. Not trying to scare you cause but to make you feel better it hasn't happen to me in the past when I would go to the salon to get manicures. Now I do my own nails so I don't have to worry about this stuff.

How to Promote & Grow Long Nails

If you have short nails and want to grow them out, long nails that are dry, weak,
brittle, crack and break easily, or even medium length nails that you just want to
grow longer then your in the right place. Many of us don't realize that
the things we do with are nails everyday may be what is hurting them. Your nails
say a lot about your health and hygiene. So If you follow these tips you'll be on your way
 to long healthy nails!

Protection, Protection, Protection
If your a teen like myself and you have chores, or living on your own, or a mom that does all the house work. You must protect your nails from those harsh chemicals even if you have diluted them with water because they can weaken the nails causing them to be prone to breakage. Solution to that is to wear gloves when washing dishes and cleaning with chemicals. Especially if you have long nails or medium nails. If you have short nails I would recommend " Dawn Dish Soap Hand Renewal With Olay " when your washing dishes but still use gloves when using chemicals for other cleaning.

Feed & Massage your nails
Oils such as coconut oil, vitamin E oil, Olive oil, and Almond Oil do wonders for your nails, it's basically like food for them because they contain rich vitamins and supplements that promote nail growth. I personally use coconut oil because its what I have and it's never failed me yet. Place your nails in a small bowl of any oil you choose above for 10 minutes and let your nails soak it up. Then use your thumbs to massage your nail beds and cuticles evenly on both hands. After you've done that wash your hands with a moisturizing hand soap. Then take your favorite hand lotion and massage your hands. This stimulates blood circulation which also helps the process of nail growth, and keeps them strong. I recommend hand massages daily, it feels amazing, you'll have soft hands, and it promotes nail growth!

Choice of nail varnish removers
Pure Acetone is the most effective polish removers out there but it's known for drying the nails very badly. For me honestly, it made my nails appear yellowish, brittle, dry and it's not attractive. so I now use non-acetone nail polish removers and it's made a big difference on my nails, their much stronger, healthier, and very nourished.

Cuticle & Nail Care
Your cuticles protect and are the barrier that keeps bacteria, fungi, and all that bad stuff away from your nails. They also are a important factor in growing your nails long, strong, and healthy. When your cut your cuticles it slows the nail growth by a lot and your basically inviting harm to your nails. So it's important not to cut them. Regular manicures every week or 2 weeks are good if you want to grow long healthy nails, also it looks nice and feminine.

Nail Strengtheners
I have long nails and using a base coat, 2 coats of nail lacquer, and a top coat makes my polish last longer and helps thicken them because of the hard layers, so it's a lot less prone to breakage or damage. I can even hit my nail against something and it's perfectly fine. Nail strengtheners are an amazing thing to use if you have brittle, thin, or weak nails. Use a nail strengthener as a base coat. For me it keeps my nails strong, and is the best way for me to grow my nails without any breaking.

Diet
Your nails say a lot about your health, as long as your hair, skin, and everything else. The saying " You are what you eat " Is true. A healthy diet will give you long, strong healthy nails. But I'm not saying you can't have junk food because ummm, I love sherbert, nachos, and sweets but if you want to reach your goal of having long nails a healthy diet with foods containing calcium, vitamin A, vitamin C, Iron, Zinc helps a lot. Also taking  Biotin supplements is amazing, I take it and the results are amazing just give a few weeks to see results.

Good luck!
